Greg Beem, organ

Greg Beem serves as principal organist at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin.

A native of Zion, Illinois, he has had an active career both as a music educator and church musician. For almost four decades, Greg has served in the music ministries for a number of churches here in the Midwest. In addition, he served for 33 years as a music specialist in the public schools in Northbrook, Illinois, retiring in 2009. He is an active member of the Organ Historical Society and the American Guild of Organists and has had the privileged to serve as Competition Coordinator for the Milwaukee Chapter AGO/ Quimby Regional Competition for Young Organists.

Greg began his formal music training at a young age. For 10 years he studied piano at the Zion Conservatory of Music. As a young child, he developed a keen interest in the organ and it’s music, leading him to begin organ studies at age 13. These early formative years were instrumental in Greg’s decision to pursue further musical studies at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Greg has received degrees from Butler University (Bachelor of Music), Concordia University-Chicago (Master of Church Music), and National-Louis University (Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership). His primary organ teachers have included, Kathleen Hackemer, David Koehring, Margaret McElwain Kemper, Herbert Gotch and Steven Wente.

Greg lives with his wife, Cindy, in Sister Bay.
