The final week of the Festiva
l begins with three excerpts from Tchaikovsky's incidental music to The Snow Maiden receiving their first Festival performance. These are three unknown jewels by a composer who is very well known.
Alexander Borodin was a Professor of Chemistry who loved and composed music as a hobby until he was convinced by Balakirev that "his real business was composition." This is the first performance of Borodin's Symphony #2 in B minor at the Festival.
Valentin Zhuk performed the Kachaturian Violin Concerto at the Festival in 1994.
