Who will conduct the John Philip Sousa's Washington Post March on Thursday August 14, 2008?
Peninsula Music Festival’s Battle of the Baton All-Stars 2008
This year, five of the people who have had the opportunity to conduct the PMF in the past, will try for the chance to do it again! For the past five years, the PMF has help the Battle of the Baton competition as a fundraiser for its Wisconsin Public Radio Broadcasts. Now, the winners of each of those competitions will try for a chance to get on the podium again!
Instead of conducting the Star Spangled Banner on opening night, the winner of the Battle of the Baton All-Stars will conduct John Philip Sousa's Washington Post March on Thursday, August 14. Maestro Yampolsky feels his conducting students need to expand their repertoire!

Why People Should Vote for Me ... Ginka Cohn
Ever since I had the amazing opportunity to conduct the Music Festival Orchestra, I have been dancing to a different drummer. "And-a-one-two-one-two-one-two". It sounds more like a Sousa March than the "Star Spangled Banner". Wonder why? If you'd like to see me "dance" again, this time in two, then vote for me and we'll raise lots of money for the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra!!!! |

Why People Should Vote for Me ... Sue Daubner
At age 4 1/2, I was the youngest person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean from Norway to the United States, alone! When my feet touched American soil and I was greeeted by a band playing a Sousa march, I knew that my destiny was to conduct that rousing music someday, Okay, at least I think there was a band. And if there was, I'm sure it would have been palying a Sousa march. At any rate, directing the PMF Orchestra in the Star Spangled Banner was such an incredible thrill me, I am really excited about the possibility of directing the orchestra in this year's choice of a Sousa march. Vote for Sue Daubner for Battle of the Baton All Stars. Keep the magic alive! |

Why People Should Vote for Me ... Virginia Eades
Last year, we had the grandeur and dignity of the Star Spangled Banner. This year, we have the toe tapping rhythm of a Sousa march - just made for a fut bucket player like me! You can be sure I will conduct it with such vim and vigor that you will hardly be able to stay in your seats - not that we want you marching right out there - but, encouraging you to hum and clap along - being part of the fun! So, please vote early and often just like last year when you broke all the records! Let's keep that momentum going and break the old record for Battle money raised! I, and the PMF will be so very grateful for your votes! |

Why People Should Vote for Me ... Pat Hickey
Why do I want the privilege of conducting the PMF orchestra, a second time? Because it is such fun! Through my many years of involvement with this wonderful Orchestra, I have become friends with the orchestra members. What could be better than having the opportunity to conduct this group of my talented friends, twice!! I spend my days on public school financing, so climbing on to the podium to conduct a Sousa march will be a piece of cake AND I can help raise lots of money to keep the PMF Orchestra on the radio! |

Why People Should Vote for Me ... JR Jarosh
MBeing called back to compete is an honor indeed. While I feel I'm definitely the "David" competing against a field of Door County "Goliaths". I've used the time since my initial Battle of the Baton victory to hone my conducting skills for this epic showdown. To handle the mental pressure, I continue to practice the human conducting phenomenon of leading nearly nine-hundred reasonable men & woman into an unreasonable Lake Michigan every New Year's Day with the Jacksonport Polar Bear Club. To better understant the artistic mind of a musician, my professional career has taken me away from Physical Therapy, into the art world, as my wife Nell & I are now the "lead conductors" at Edgewood Orchard Galleries. Most of all, Im ready for the physical demands of conducting; keeping up with our nearly 2 year old identical twin daughters, Abby & Anna, has heightened my quickness and agility to Yampolskian levels. While twin 2 year olds move with a rhythmic and melodic vitality that would make John Philip Sousa himself pround (and perhaps a little bit tired), I've managed to keep up and with your support, I'd be honored to take the baton in hand once again. |

Each time the PMF Orchestra is broadcast on WPR, the musicians in the orchestra are paid a broadcast fee.
The Battle of the Baton All-Stars fundraiser will help ensure that the WPR broadcasts of the Peninsula Music Festival can continue for many years to come.
