Rogene Russell, oboe


A University of Tennessee and Yale University School of Music graduate, Rogene Russell has been the Principal Oboist of The Dallas Opera Orchestra for over 20 years.  Since 1977, Ms. Russell has been a member of the oboe section of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.  In addition, Ms. Russell is Adjunct Professor of Oboe at the University of Texas at Arlington.  She has recorded with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Dallas Opera Orchestra, Turtle Creek Chorale, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra, Dallas Chamber Orchestra, Voices of Change, and Texas Boys Choir.  Since 1975, Ms. Russell has performed oboe and English horn with the Peninsula Music Festival.

A founding member of Fine Arts Chamber Players (FACP), Rogene Russell currently serves as its Artistic Director and as a Teaching Artist with Dream Collectors. Committed to offering free professionally performed chamber music and music education opportunities in Dallas, FACP presents eleven annual concerts at the Dallas Museum of Art and in Fair Park plus over 400 educational outreach sessions each year including a youth recital series, weekly individual music lessons for public school scholarship students and an after-school violin program for inner-city elementary students. Chosen to receive the Texas Commission on the Arts “Exemplary Programming for Children” Award, the Dream Collector troupe of professional musicians and actors present curriculum based in-school programs that reinforce literacy, science and character education in North Texas public schools.  

A graduate of the first North Texas Business for Culture and the Arts Leadership Arts class, Ms. Russell has served on the Conductor Search Committee of The Dallas Opera and currently represents The Dallas Opera Orchestra on The Dallas Opera Board of Directors.
