Grammy-Winning Violinist Returns To PMF

The Peninsula Music Festival (PMF) will welcome two-time Grammy Award-winning violinist James Ehnes for two performances to open its 2026 summer season, Aug. 4 through 22 at Door County Auditorium.

Ehnes, one of the most celebrated violinists of his generation, will appear on opening night and again on Thursday of the festival’s first week in two distinct programs.

The festival opens on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 7:30 pm with “American Masterworks,” a high-energy, all-American program that features Samuel Barber’s “Violin Concerto” with Ehnes as soloist, among other selections.

Ehnes will return on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 7:30 pm for “String Serenades,” a contrasting program of lush, romantic repertoire. In this performance, he takes on a rare “play/lead” role, serving as both soloist and conductor, guiding the orchestra directly from his violin.

Ehnes, who performs on the 1715 “Marsick” Stradivarius, has built an international reputation for his technical brilliance and expressive depth. A frequent guest with the world’s leading orchestras, he has received two Grammy Awards, three Gramophone Awards and 12 Juno Awards – the most of any classical musician.Tickets are available at musicfestival.com or by calling 920.854.4060. All nine PMF concerts take place at the Door County Auditorium, 3926 Hwy 42 in Fish Creek.
